Located to the north-east of Corbett National Park, Durga Devi Zone has some of the most beautiful glances in the world. The landscape with lush green forests and lush vegetation epitomizes the splendid beauty of Durgadevi tourist area in Corbett Tiger Reserve. Being part of 7 ecotourism zones of park, it is known for being home to many exotic birds. In fact, this area is a paradise for birds. The abundance of wildlife which makes this area a peaceful place beautifies this area of Corbett Forest and attracts many visitors every year. Corbett Forestry Department runs jeep safaris in the area to explore the vibrancy and natural beauty of Corbett area tour.

Durga Devi Visit

The Durgadevi area is situated on a hillock and has some of the most beautiful landscapes as well as a variety of wildlife. The Ramganga and Mandal rivers intersect at various points in the region, adding to the charm of this forest area. Like all Corbett National Parks, the Durgadevi area is also home to a number of spectacular wildlife species, including small game. Good ecosystems and large areas are the best places for wildlife to survive and thrive. The beautiful terrain and abundant wildlife views make it a popular destination for tourists.

Major plants of the region include Shisham, Sisu, Dhak and Khair which are abundant in the park. Other local plants like Chir Pine, Chir Choti, Gajar Sot, Banj Oak, Kanju, Jamun, Amla etc. Grow in most areas of the park. The most endemic species of this region are Royal Bengal Tiger, Wild Boar, Wild Boar, Asiatic Elephant, Show Deer, Sambar Deer, Howler, Cheetah, Red Rhesus, Black Eared Jackal, Black Jackal etc. The Durgadevi area is particularly famous for its spectacular lion and bird watching, as it has more wild elephants than anywhere else in Corbett Park. The rivers of the district are home to the famous Mahseer fish which can be found in the rivers of the district.

Visitors to Corbett National Park should not be disappointed if safari seats are not available or are full. After an increase in the number of tourists, the new Ringora or Garjia safari area of Corbett now starts in November. Girija has added a new safari area, allowing tourists to enjoy game drives. Till date, tourist attractions in Corbett National Park include Bijrani, Jhirna, Dhela, Durgadevi, Sitabani and Pakhro. Due to the safari ban, the Corbett authorities have opened the Girija Darshan area for tourists. During peak periods, many wildlife enthusiasts are disappointed that they did not get the opportunity to enjoy safaris. However, the practice of opening new areas has long been abandoned.

Durga Devi Safari Zone

Durgadevi Gate is the gateway to this zone, which is 28 km away from the nearest town Ramnagar, which is the furthest point from Ramnagar. The area also has a resort called Lohachaur Forest House where tourists can stay and experience the lush green forests at their peak. Tourists need to obtain a permit to enter the park to enjoy weekly jeep safaris or an overnight stay at the forest station. It is advisable to meet in advance, especially on weekends and public holidays, as there are a lot of tourists. Durgadevi area is open for tourists from 15 October to 15 June every year. During monsoon, the park is closed for visits.

Day Safari Timings Of The Durga Devi Safari Zone:

Note: Only 30 Safari jeeps are allowed in each shift

1. Winter Safaris Timings –
  • Morning Safari Entry – 07:00 am & Exit- 10:00 am.
  • Evening Safari Entry – 02:00 pm & Exit- 05:30 pm.
2. Summer Safaris Timings –
  • Morning Safari Entry – 06:00 am & Exit- 09:30 am.
  • Evening Safari Entry – 03:00 pm & Exit- 06:30 pm.
