It is about 13 km from Dhangadhi, the entry gate of Dhikala Zone and about 40 km from Ramnagar town. The FRH compound is protected with solar electric wire to prevent wild animals from entering. Since Garal FRH is deep inside the forest, there is a wonderful calmness in the entire ambiance, making it a wonderful place to calm your mind from all the chaotic thoughts and refresh it while staying here. This rest house can be reached by taking a little detour from the Dhangadhi-Dhikala main forest road. It is located on the banks of the Ramganga near the point where it first enters the park. The character of Ramganga in Gairal is different from the places downstream (like Dhikala). Here, it is a crystal-clear, fast-flowing mountain river that flows through beautiful forests. Being off the beaten track, Garal offers ideal conditions for watching wild animals and birds in peace. Located on the banks of the Ramganga River, FRH offers you a spectacular view of the river bank and also gives you a chance to spot many animals and observe their activities on the river bank. Often, the king of the jungle, the tiger is seen on the banks of the river either coming to drink water or in search of its prey. Herds of elephants can also be seen drinking water or bathing and playing in the water around the river. This place is also a paradise for bird lovers as one can get a great opportunity to watch birds near Forest Home.
Compared to some other forest houses in Corbett, the accommodations at Garal FRH are good and comfortable. Being a forest rest house, the rooms have only limited facilities, but the rooms and attached bathrooms are clean and everything inside is in good condition. All rooms have a large double bed and the furniture is identical in each room, so it doesn’t matter which room you are assigned. The Gairal Rest House offers clean rooms with attached washrooms and some limited facilities. All the rooms are well maintained and spacious, but there is no electricity 24 hours a day. Due to the maintenance of the natural environment, the rooms are not air-conditioned or have telephone facilities. The rest house has a canteen facility where tourists can have delicious food and snacks at very affordable prices.
Gairal Rest House is the canteen of GMVN. You get good food facilities here, the food menu here is limited. Don’t expect fancy multi-cuisine dining here, but the food served here is simple, homely and tastes good. In addition to food, guests can purchase snacks and mineral water from the canteen. Non-veg food and wine are not allowed in Forest House.
