The Sitabani forest area of Corbett Park is said to be the most famous and scenic area for hiking and local attractions. Sitabani is not part of Corbett Tiger Reserve, it is a hard forest area, so CTR rules and regulations do not apply to this area. The Sitabani region has become a popular tourist destination due to the beauty of the Hindu epic Ramayana. The epic tells that Goddess Sita, the wife of Lord Rama, spent many days in exile in the forest of Sitabani. The entire forest is protected and monitored by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The tourist area of Sitabani is open for game drives every year and there is no restriction on the entry of gypsies in this area. The Corbett Tiger Reserve Authority does not issue permits for this area. Instead, the Sitabani Forest Service allows jeep safaris in the area. It also has an ancient temple which is famous for Lord Shiva. A shallow channel running through Sitabani provides a pleasant rest for the hikers.
Sitabani forest area is famous for its diversity. The landscape protects over 600 species of trees, shrubs, bamboo, herbaceous grasses, orchids, wood vines and wetland plants. Sal, Shisham, Kanju, Dhak, Haldu, Peepal, Mango trees and Rohini Sitabani are some of the most prominent green plants of the region.
